ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Director – Planning & Performance, the Manager – Health Records & Privacy Contact is responsible for the administration of two health records departments, providing advice and expertise to the broader management team related to health information management and acting as the organization’s Privacy Contact.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing the health records service at St. Joseph’s Hospital and St. Joseph’s Health Centre;
  • Collaborating with clinical teams, advise on and support the implementation and maintenance of practices to management health records functions in long-term care and community based programs that do not have dedicated health records functions;
  • Maintaining health information system and procedures according to best practice,
  • Overseeing the administration of routine matters related to Personal Health Information (PHIPA) and Freedom of Information (FOI);
  • Providing advice and input into the management of complex matters related to PHIPA and FOI; and
  • Preparing and presenting reports to various internal and audiences including Leadership Team, and the Medical Advisory Committee, Privacy Commissioner of Ontario and Ministry of Health on organizational performance on health records and privacy related matters.

WHAT YOU BRING

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor degree in health information, business administration or other related field
  • Significant experience related to health records services ideally within a post-acute healthcare setting
  • Proven experience in progressively more responsible leadership roles
  • Certification with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA)

 

Skills/Abilities:

  • Superior ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing, and to deliver presentations to a variety of audiences
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to direct, motivate, evaluate, and recognize staff; proven ability to share skills and knowledge of others
  • Strong time management, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills
  • Ability to use independent judgment and maintain confidentiality of records, actions and information
  • Proficiency with office computer equipment and software
  • Ability to interpret applicable acts and legislation
  • Competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health & Safety Act
  • Demonstrated regular attendance at work

 

Asset:

  • Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) or other Privacy Certification an asset
  • Experience with Meditech or other similar electronic health record system an asset
  • Experience with Ontario Telemedicine Network and Strata Applications an asset

 

Conditions of Employment:

  • This position shall be conditional upon a satisfactory Criminal Record & Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC) where indicated, to ensure the absence of relevant criminal convictions.
  • Will be required to travel to various work locations and provide own transportation
