We are seeking a dynamic, experienced, and collaborative leader to join our team as Clinical Manager, Surgical Services, Obstetrics, Ambulatory Care & Medical Device Reprocessing (MDRD), supporting safe, high-quality, patient- and family-centered care across the organization.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to the Director of Clinical Services, the Clinical Manager, Surgical Services, Obstetrics, Ambulatory Care & Medical Device Reprocessing (MDRD) provides operational and clinical leadership for the Operating Room, Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), related surgical services, Obstetrics Unit, Ambulatory Care Unit and Medical Device Reprocessing Department. The Clinical Manager is accountable for ensuring safe, high-quality, patient- and family-centred care while fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement.

The Clinical Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the portfolio, including quality and patient safety, human resource management, financial stewardship, physician collaboration, regulatory compliance, patient flow, service planning, and strategic initiatives. Working closely with interdisciplinary teams and organizational leaders, the Clinical Manager supports the achievement of GBGH's strategic priorities and commitment to delivering exceptional care, every person, every time.

WHAT YOU’LL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR

Operational Leadership & Service Delivery

  • Serves as a role model by demonstrating and promoting GBGH's mission, vision, values, and organizational culture.
  • Provides strategic oversight of human, physical, fiscal, and environmental resources to support safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care.
  • Maintains efficient operations across all departments within the portfolio while ensuring effective patient flow and service delivery.
  • Leads continuous quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes, quality, safety, operational efficiency, and service excellence.
  • Demonstrates commitment to organizational excellence and continuous professional development.
  • Develops, revises, and maintains policies and procedures that support quality patient care, regulatory compliance, and best practices.
  • Maintains positive relationships with community and external partners.
  • Recruits, hires, and oversees the performance of direct-report staff.
  • Demonstrates and models cultural awareness, inclusivity, and sensitivity to the diverse needs of patients, families, and staff.
  • Leads succession planning initiatives by identifying and developing future leaders within the department.

Surgical Services & Endoscopy

  • Provides leadership for perioperative services including Operating Room, PACU, Endoscopy and related ambulatory surgical services.
  • Collaborates with surgeons, anesthesiologists, endoscopists and interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient access, quality outcomes and service delivery.
  • Monitors and improve performance indicators related to surgical wait times, endoscopy access, patient experience, quality and safety.

Medical Device Reprocessing Department (MDRD)

  • Provides leadership and oversight for Medical Device Reprocessing services in accordance with provincial legislation, CSA standards, Accreditation Canada requirements and infection prevention and control best practices.
  • Ensures effective sterilization, disinfection, storage and distribution processes for reusable medical devices and equipment.
  • Supports ongoing competency development and certification of MDRD staff.
  • Collaborates with Infection Prevention and Control, Quality, Surgical Services and Endoscopy teams to ensure compliance with best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Leads quality improvement initiatives related to reprocessing standards, audits and accreditation readiness.

Obstetrics Unit

  • Provides leadership and operational oversight for Obstetrics services, including Labour and Delivery, Postpartum Care, Newborn Care and related maternal-child health services.
  • Collaborates with physicians, midwives, pediatricians, anesthesiologists and interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe, high-quality, family-centered care throughout the perinatal journey.
  • Monitors and improve performance indicators related to patient experience, maternal and newborn outcomes, breastfeeding initiatives, patient flow, quality and safety.
  • Ensures compliance with provincial legislation, Accreditation Canada Obstetrics Standards, BORN Ontario requirements, Perinatal Quality Standards and infection prevention and control best practices.
  • Leads quality improvement initiatives related to obstetrical care, emergency preparedness, perinatal risk management, fetal health surveillance and accreditation readiness.
  • Promotes evidence-informed practice and supports ongoing staff competency development, simulation training and certification requirements for obstetrical and neonatal care.
  • Collaborates with regional maternal-child health partners to support seamless transitions of care and optimize patient outcomes.

Ambulatory Care Unit

  • Provides leadership and operational oversight for Ambulatory Care and outpatient clinic services.
  • Collaborates with physicians, nurse practitioners and interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient access and service delivery.
  • Monitors and improve performance indicators related to access, wait times, patient experience, quality and safety.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation and professional practice standards.
  • Leads quality improvement initiatives focused on patient flow, operational effectiveness and care outcomes.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Develops and fosters collaborative working relationships across departments, disciplines, and programs to support quality patient care and team effectiveness.
  • Build strong partnerships with physicians, nursing leaders, and interdisciplinary teams to achieve operational and clinical objectives.
  • Facilitates effective communication within clinical teams and across programs to support coordinated patient care and service delivery.
  • Participate in organizational committees, working groups, and initiatives related to patient care, quality, and safety.

Financial & Resource Management

  • Accountable for departmental budget development, monitoring, forecasting, and financial performance.
  • Promotes cost-effective patient care through responsible inventory management and appropriate utilization of surgical supplies, equipment, and resources.
  • Oversees procurement activities and vendor relationships to support operational requirements.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve resource utilization, operational efficiency, and fiscal stewardship.

Human Resources & Team Development

  • Fosters a positive, inclusive, and collaborative work environment aligned with GBGH's mission, vision, and values.
  • Provides coaching, mentorship, performance management, and recognition to support individual and team effectiveness.
  • Supports staff education, competency development, and ongoing professional growth.
  • Ensure staff are appropriately oriented, trained, and supported to meet departmental and organizational objectives.

Experience & Credentials

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing or equivalent.
  • Registered Nurse with current registration with the College of Nursing of Ontario in good standing and without practice restrictions.
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST)/Medical Device Reprocessing Department certification.
  • Canadian Perioperative Nursing Certification (CPN(C)) is an asset.
  • Masters in a health-related field is preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience managing/supervising interdisciplinary teams in a healthcare environment, preferably in acute care.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in Obstetrics, perioperative services, endoscopy operations and medical device reprocessing standards, including Operating Room, PACU, Endoscopy and related surgical or procedural care environments.
  • Experience leading complex clinical operations within surgical, procedural, acute care or perioperative environments.
  • Experience supporting quality improvement, accreditation processes, and/or medication safety initiatives.

Skills & Competencies

  • Demonstrated leadership ability with strong interpersonal, team building, collaboration, negotiation, and consensus-building skills.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to use data and metrics to drive operational and strategic decisions.
  • Knowledge of labour relations, collective agreements, applicable legislation, accreditation requirements, and medico-legal considerations.
  • Highly organized and proactive, with the ability to effectively manage multiple competing priorities in a dynamic healthcare environment.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, sound judgment, discretion, and respect for confidentiality.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant healthcare technology systems.
