Position Summary:
The RN - Neonatal and Paediatric Outpatient Clinic is responsible for the care, coordination, and management of neonatal and paediatric patients who require follow-up monitoring, assessment, support, and/or medication intervention following discharge from hospital including the emergency department.
The Neonatal and Paediatric Outpatient Clinic RN is a Lactation Consultant (LC) (active or in the process of completing certification, OR historical LC certification with recent applicable clinical experience) who provides breastfeeding support and education post discharge from hospital. The Neonatal Paediatric Outpatient Clinic RN acts as the Breastfeeding Initiative (BFI) co-lead alongside the in-patient LC and as a resource for staff seeking expert knowledge.
The Neonatal and Paediatric Outpatient Clinic RN provides high quality, safe, effective and evidence-based care in partnership with patient and families, in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario standards and GGH’s mission, vision, values and policies. The Neonatal Paediatric Outpatient Clinic RN optimizes the patient’s experience and care outcomes by:
- Being accountable for one’s decisions and professional practice;
- Establishing a therapeutic relationship with the patient and family;
- Collaborating with other members of the patient’s care team;
- Coordinating, communicating and documenting patient care activities.

Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Abilities:
- Certificate of registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- International Board of Certified Lactation Consultants (I.B.C.L.C.) designation (active or historical with continuous application of knowledge)
- Current BCLS and NRP
- PALS certification preferred
- Previous experience working in a maternal/newborn paediatric clinic setting
- Recent experience in perinatal nursing preferred
- Recent experience in paediatrics nursing preferred
- Demonstrates commitment to best practice, nursing standards and life-long learning
- Demonstrates neonatal, maternal and paediatric assessment skills
- Demonstrates breastfeeding expertise, teaching & leadership skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Strong critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills
- Demonstrates ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
- Demonstrates commitment to excellent customer service when interacting with patients, families, colleagues, and physicians
